To Be a Fan...

Being a true sports fan is exhausting... Truly.

To be a fan is to have undying pride in your team, in good games and bad, week and and week out. It's never giving up, just like they never give up... It is believing in your heart of hearts that your team has a chance, that your team will pull through.

To be a fan is an act of complete faith in a thing you have no control over... a game that can be decided by one fantastic play or one bad bounce.

To be a fan is to stand in a stadium with 50,000 other fans, all wearing the same colors, screaming your ever loving brains out for your team.

To be a fan is the constant act of putting your heart outside your body. It's the act of watching it be bashed around, crushed, and stomped on over and over again by the agony of defeat... Only to be completely renewed by the thrill of a single victory.

To be a fan is the pure elation that comes from your team succeeding.

Favre-watch Ends

That's right, Mr. Favre will be wearing purple this upcoming football season.

Now, I've got some mixed feelings about this decision by my team. As a true Vikings fan from the moment I was born (one of my first outfits was a tiny Vikings uniform), my gut reaction was, "UGH! A CHEESEHEAD*?!?!"

However, once I stopped and thought about it for more than five seconds, I realized that this may not be a bad move. I mean, really, the Vikings are getting a Hall of Fame quarterback. That's something they haven't had in... a long damn time. I'm too lazy to check how long. That's how long it's been. If Favre can stay healthy I think this will be an interesting year for the Vikings. He's sure as Hell better than Tavaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels.

Granted, Favre is pushing 40 years old, but he doesn't need to be mobile in the Vikings offense. We've got a strong offensive line to protect him and the best runningback in the league as a check down option. He also doesn't have to be a gunslinger because of that "best runningback in the league". Adrian Peterson will take a lot of pressure off Favre. The fact that defenses will have to respect Favre's ability means they can't stack the line to defend against the run. That will open the defense up for Peterson to do his thing. The Vikings are a running team first, and I think that will suit Favre just fine at this point in his career.

I mean really, what more can you ask for? Plus, remember the first half of last season with the New York Jets? Everyone says Favre tanked it last season, but remember what happend before he got hurt? He threw SIX touchdown passes in a game vs. the Arizona Cardinals. The eventual NFC Champions. That's no joke there folks. Let the good times roll!

USA Crushing Opponents in Junior Nationals Tournament

Does this surprise anyone? Seriously?

The U.S. is the only country that HAS the kind of football following and involvement to even compete in a tournament like this. Why even hold it if one team is going to be so completely dominant?

All they're doing is risking injury to these guys. They are putting these players' futures on the line for what I see as a meaningless tournament. They'd be better off going to their universities and developing a relationship with the coaching staff and players there rather than just beating up on obviously inferior teams.

What a joke.

Hump Day Highlights - Volume I

1) Lucas Glover (pictured) won the U.S. Open, and has been chastized for being a boring champion. (Read that guy's blog, by the way, it's hilarious.) I'm not a huge golf fan in general, but I did catch a little bit of Sunday's coverage before they called it due to darkness. I guess the U.S. Open just screams, "Watch me!"

P.S. Could it rain more in New York please? Geezus. Pretty soon they're going to have to call Noah to bring in the Ark.

2) What kind of IDIOT steals Lance Armstrong's bike? I mean really. Was he that desperate for transportation? Not only did the guy steal the most well known bicyclist in the world's bike, he then went and sold it for $200. Way to go, moron, that $200 just cost you 3 years in prison.

3) The Calgary Flames hired a new coach, Brent Sutter. He's the brother of General Manager Daryl Sutter. Keep it in the family, boys. Let's see how that works out for you.
